Madras Day, the birthday of this teeming Metropolis,will be conducted on August 22.A series of programmes had been lined up from August 17 to 24, to celebrate the day.It was on August 22, 1639 that the grant was signed and given to Francis Day of the East India Company for the piece of no-man’s-sand from which the city has grown.
