At the audio launch of Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramaandu (MVM)

At the audio launch of Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramaandu (MVM) the self appointed guardian of Tamil Lyricists, the noted poet Vairamuthu made a dig at actor Vijay!

Vairamuthu takes a dig at Vijay!

When Vairamuthu was speaking on the lyrical quality of the songs he had written for the film, Vijay walked in late. The poet immediately switched topics and said that lyrics are not been given importance in Tamil film music.

Vairamuthu said: “Today melodies which made Tamil music world famous are not being given its due importance in our films. It is very unfortunate that kuthu songs have overtaken melodies in Tamil film music. Music instruments have become more blaring and prominent than the use of soft lyrics”.

Our Ilayathalapathy kept a straight face, though producers and other industry people on stage looked embarrassed. It was obvious that Vairamuthu was targeting Vijay and his Appadi Podu.. or the latest craze Danadana Dara… type kuthu numbers which have become a part of Tamil commercial cinema.

Remember Vijay film songs are meant for the masses and do not have pure Tamil lyrics and are written by young lyricist like PA Vijay, Snehan, Kapilan and others who are more radical in their approach.

Vijay when his turn came he made it clear that he loves to dance to the tunes of kuthu numbers and Vidyasagar the MVM music director is one of his favorites. At the function the superstar and the poet laureate did not exchange any words; they just looked through each other.

The moral of the story- “One man’s music is another man’s cacophony”
